A rare commodity is free time. Most people want to "work on themselves'' and improve to new heights in knowledge and spirituality. The problem most face, however, is not what to do but when to do it. The job of changing a character trait or learning a body of Jewish law takes a lot of time. Maybe in days of old people lived simpler lives but today all of our modern "time saving" devices have resulted in a life that is fast and furious and short on "free time". What is a well-intentioned person to do to achieve spiritual success?

The answer is to take "small pieces". You probably will not find huge blocks of free time in your busy lifestyle. A minute here and a moment there is the best way to be efficient with time management. Waiting for a train is valuable time. Waiting on line is also important time. Waiting for your spouse can be used for learning rather than getting impatient. Waiting for others to arrive for a lunch or dinner engagement or business meeting can also be productive. All one has to do is be prepared. Train yourself to think when you are involved in "gaps" in your day. Carry one of the great classics of Jewish thought or one of the new self-help books now available in light, small pocket sizes. Then when the opportunity arises don't get nervous. Pull out your book and work on yourself. If you don't have a book -- think. It may only be a minute, but minutes make up hours and hours turn into days. The result will be a happier more successful YOU!

DID YOU KNOW THAT
When a person washes their hands before eating - after pouring the water on each hand the required number of times - he must rub his hands together. He should twist his hands when pouring to make sure that ALL of his hand gets washed and no part remains dry. If he fails to get the whole hand wet the unwashed portion can contaminate the water and when he rubs his hands together the washing may be invalidated. Ben Ish Chai, Tazria/Tahor
