Minute 933 // The Thought Count

           DEDICATED IN MEMORY OF

ARE YOIU THE ONE?

The alarm went off at the usual time and your head was still aching. You sneezed as you lifted your heavy head off of the pillow.
"I think I should stay home today and get some rest. This head cold is making me feel weak and I can't think straight anyway," you thought to yourself as you walked ever so slowly to wash up. But you remembered the project you were working on and knew that your boss was counting on you to meet the deadline. If you missed work today you knew you could never complete the project on time and so you struggled -- but you made it to your desk -- and on time to boot.
At lunchtime, instead of eating at your desk, as you so often do, you went out to eat and took an extra few minutes to sip on a cup of tea. You needed the rest and did not want to let your boss down when you returned to work. How upset you were when your boss -- of all people -- gave you a funny look as you came back from lunch ten minutes late. Didn't he realize how much you pushed yourself to perform for him? You knew of the heroism and extra effort that you put in today and you wanted him top know about it and to appreciate it.
Well nobody can read your mind so people judge you on your results -- not on your intentions.
Today when you are judging the performance of another -- stop. Add the other person's possible motives and intentions to your evaluation. It only takes a minute to negate the natural reaction. We naturally judge others by their actions, but we expect them to judge us by our good intentions.

DID YOU KNOW THAT
Even if one eats with a fork or spoon, and even if one's hands do not touch the moisture on the food that he or she is eating, one must wash a ritual washing [netillat yadayim].
If one is in a situation where water for the nettilah [washing] is not available -- one may eat the food holding it in a napkin or while wearing gloves. [Source: Yalkut Yosef, volume 3, Siman 158:2]

CONSIDER THIS FOR A MINUTE
"Make sure your money remains in your hand, i.e., that you have control over it. When one loses control -- one is in the hands of his money.

Do not let money become your master.” [Rabbi Meir of Premishlan]
