IT'S SO EASY TO HONOR A LVED ONE

The show at the aquarium was mind-boggling. Before attending the special presentation on jellyfish, the Cohen family was convinced that jellyfish were those uniform blobs that they always saw in the ocean water or on the beach. They were clear and looked liked jelly hence the name.

After spending more than an hour looking at hundreds of varieties, in an assortment of colors and shapes – some as small as 3 millimeters in diameter and one arctic variety that can grow as large as seven feet wide – each family member from the children to the grandparents spoke in awe in the variety of Hashem’s creation. The jellyfish is only one type of fish amongst the many thousands of varieties and yet it has so many different external features.

Human beings fill our planet and they too share a lot in common in external characteristics but yet they differ with variations that make one say, “No two faces are identical.” Unlike the fish however the human also has a vast store of emotions and attitudes that make each person even from the same family very different than every other person on Earth. Just because one is unique unto oneself does not mean that one may not tolerate others. Each unique individual expects that others should respect his or her ‘s individualistic opinions. So too one should honor the other’s right not to agree. Too often a failure to agree is taken as an affront BUT it really is only another person’s perception of reality and right and wrong. We should learn to tolerate one another. If I don’t agree with you it does not mean that I don’t like you. You too should give me my right to think for myself.

CONSIDER THIS FOR A MINUTE

One should always consider his or her past deeds as equal i.e. that he or she has as many merits as debits. The result should be a cautious approach to one’s next act because it will be the one to tip the balance scale.
